Resorts for Family Reunions

I don’t know about you, but in my family reunions were a one day affair held in the backyard with a couple of grills going, picnic tables scattered about, and lots of children running around.  We played all the classic picnic games, handed out homemade ribbons, and doled out Poppy’s coleslaw like it was going out of style. This year however, I’ve been put in charge of family reunion duty and as much as I love the old event, it’s time to change things up a bit. If you’re in the same boat and are looking for some fresh ideas, here are just a few of the great Stash partner hotels that can help you plan the reunion of the year!

Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort – Leavenworth, WA

Accommodations: Nestled in the heart of the Cascade Mountains sits Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort, an ideal choice for a nature-inspired family reunion. Lodging options at Sleeping Lady include six unique room clusters and two stand-alone cabins, all named after a local natural element, providing families with flexible options depending on group size and needs.

To do: Although an itinerary may seem over-the-top, you may need one to make sure you fit in all of the great activities offered by Sleeping Lady. From hiking and tubing to horseback riding and rock climbing, there are a variety of options to suit all ages and interests. And if you’re looking for some less strenuous but equally awesome activities, be sure to check-out the organic farm tour, self-guided art walk, and The Play Barn – fully equipped with a stage and all of the props you’ll need to throw a stellar family-wide talent show.

Don’t miss: The Kingfisher Restaurant. Meals are chef’s choice featuring locally sourced ingredients and are served family-style in the restaurant. Good food and great company are the perfect bookends to a day with family.

Honey Creek Resort State Park – Moravia, IA

Lodging options at Honey Creek Resort State Park range from traditional guest rooms, to cottages, to an entire RV campground. The perfect solution for everyone on the trip.

To do: Located on the shores of Rathburn Lake, reunion-goers can choose from a plethora of water sports including canoe, kayak and pontoon rentals. Additional outdoor activities include hiking, a bike tailor-made to your style of exploring, fishing, on-site educational programs (for children and adults alike), golfing, a playground and so much more. And there’s even a pirate-themed indoor water park for those rainy days.

Don’t miss: Honey Creek also offers a variety of family vacation packages, making it easy to plan the best reunion ever!

Rockport Inn & Suites – Rockport, MA

Accommodations: Located on five acres in a picturesque beachside town, Rockport Inn & Suites is a quintessential New England retreat and a perfect home base for a laid-back and relaxing reunion. The 79 guest rooms (all pet-friendly!) vary in size, from traditional rooms to “town-house style” suites, all equipped with the comforts of home.

To do: Onsite amenities include an indoor pool and hot tub with gorgeous cathedral ceilings, tennis courts, seasonal beach transportation to Bearskin Neck, the shopping and arts district, and flexible event space – just in case Aunt Edna’s 90th birthday coincides and she demands a party. The five acres also provide plenty of space for those family members who simply can’t live without the egg toss, three-legged race and the coveted homemade ribbons.

Don’t miss: We’ve heard that the super-friendly and extra accommodating staff have been known to help rustle up a clam bake or two. Now that makes for a good-old fashioned New England family reunion.
