Here at Stash, we call it, “Big hat, lots and lots of cattle.” Crockett Hotel, next to the Alamo—so close that one wing actually used to BE the Alamo—just joined sister Menger Hotel as a Stash partner. DALLAS
What you’ll love: The hotel boasts 1921 neoclassical towers and sophisticated dining. But this Pegasus wins our vote for favorite thing about this Magnolia Hotel, because generations of children flying into Dallas, noses pressed agains the window, knew they were home as soon as they spotted the red neon flying horse.
SAN ANTONIO
What you’ll love: Mango ice cream by the pool on a hot Texas day. And a drink in the Menger Bar—a recreation of the House of Lords’ pub and a must for history buffs, because Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders on the spot where you’re drinking your whisky.
What you’ll love: Cool tiles, soaring ceilings, and free wifi (of course) in the atrium lobby. Historic prints tell the story of Davy Crockett’s last stand, which happened … right here.
AUSTIN
AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center
What you’ll love: The bullseye location in downtown Austin on the UT campus—and work by the city’s contemporary artists on display in the courtyard art gallery.
What you’ll love: Vintage Villas is actually very contemporary in design: large, airy suites overlook Lake Travis and Texas Hill Country, making this an easy home base for wine tasting or mountain-biking weekend.
HOUSTON
What you’ll love: The way this stylish city hotel integrates it’s past as the Houston Post-Dispatch Building. The Reading Room doubles as a meeting space or quiet area for a pre-dinner drink over the dailies.
What you’ll love: Italian villa style transposes well to Houston’s Uptown Park area, it turns out. Hushed, luxurious spaces with discreet 5-star service and ornate surroundings give you that elite, international travel feeling.
What you’ll love: Lakefront fine dining with a killer wine list combined with a “Lay-Z-River” (basically, a good time floating around on an inner tube) mean you can make the whole family happy on vacation.
LUBBOCK
Overton Hotel & Conference Center
What you’ll love: This hotel is infused with West Plains culture: Texas art on the walls, ancho-sangria braised filet + Wine Spectator Award-winning list at dinner, and big, spacious rooms literally overlooking Red Raiders football at Texas Tech.
What you’ll love: Family owned and operated since it opened, Arbor Inn & Suite knocks it out of the park with service. They consider guests part of their extended family and make sure you’ve got everything you want, from extra fluffy towels for the pool or the latest score from the Red Raiders game.
