Celebrate the beginning of a new season with a trip to see the awe-inspiring fall foliage of New England. From Maine to Massachusetts, here are our favorite places to stay along the way.
HOTEL ON NORTH
Small Touches: A curated minibar holds goodies and treats from The Berkshires. And you’ll find cream in the refrigerator for your morning coffee.

THE EMERSON INN
Small Touches: The Emerson Inn offers unrestricted access to local walking paths and other area activities, including the Atlantic Trail.
THE RED LION INN
Small Touches: Choose the lodging style that best suits your needs. From the iconic Main Inn, to the country-style Maple Glen, to the one-of-a-kind houses at The Village, to the firehouse-turned-guesthouse — each option exudes charm and memorability, but in distinctly different ways.
INN ON BOLTWOOD
Small Touches: Have a drink or a full dinner from 30Boltwood outdoors on the covered patio. There’s plenty of cushy seating around the fire pit.
THE PORCHES INN AT MASS MOCA
North Adams, Massachusetts
Small Touches: If heading down for the daily breakfast buffet is too much of a hassle, get it delivered to your room in a galvanized metal lunch box, a nod to the workers who originally lived on the property.
THE LENOX HOTEL
Small Touches: Take a deep breath – all the rooms on the 11th floor are PURE allergy-friendly. Other relaxing options: spa privileges at local facilities, and in-room massages.
Small Touches: The heated outdoor pool and deck area are perfect for a swim or lounging and enjoying the harbor activity. Or relax beside the fireplace in the library and enjoy free snacks, coffee, and tea.
THE GROTON INN
Small Touches: Instead of a labyrinth of identical hallways and rooms, lose yourself in a rotating fine art collection of 50+ New England artists, curated by Groton’s NOA Gallery. You’ll find beautiful works by artists whose lives and work are deeply tied to the region.
The Hotel Veritas
Small Touches: The Hotel Veritas decided it’s important for staff to look and feel good. No off-putting operating room-green uniforms here: everyone wears Brooks Brothers.
Small Touches: Whether you choose to ride the free shuttle to town or to pedal off on a complimentary rental bike to the beach — The Beauport offers a variety of ways to maximize the unique charm of Massachusetts’ North Shore.
Small Touches: Splurge for the luxurious Penthouse Suite, in the main building, and enjoy a private rooftop patio with hot tub and your own “tranquility garden”.
THE HOTEL CONCORD
Concord, New Hampshire
Small Touches: In each guest room, you’ll find soaring ceilings, large windows, expansive views, Alexa-enabled devices, distinct art, and additional amenities such as a terrace or a pullout couch.
MILL STREET INN
Newport, Rhode Island
Small Touches: The Historic Hill experience continues with afternoon tea: high quality tea and coffee, fresh pastries, and cookies, served in the dining room.
Providence, Rhode Island
Small Touches: If you get the feeling that “something’s different” each time you return to the hotel, you might be right. Catch a rotating art exhibition in the lobby, or stumble upon a film showing or art class hosted at the hotel.
RELUCTANT PANTHER INN AND RESTAURANT
Small Touches: Homemade chocolate chip cookies are left bedside, accompanying “turndown stories” of local lore–all to set the mood for a peaceful or romantic night.
THE NORWICH INN
Small Touches: The wine list is one of the largest in the state—there’s a cellar dining room with a fireplace for private parties.
WALDO EMERSON INN
Small Touches: Sprinkled throughout your experience, you’ll discover a variety of “bars” to sweeten your stay. The Honor Bar, The Candy Bar, The Book Bar, The Beach Bar, The Beverage and Snack Bar.
SEBASCO HARBOR RESORT
Sebasco Estates, Maine
Small Touches: Sebasco operates a kids’ camp, Camp Merritt, every summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Activities include live animal visits, scavenger hunts, golf and tennis clinics and plenty of pool and playground shenanigans.
HIGGINS BEACH INN

THE DUNES ON THE WATERFRONT
Small Touches: Morning coffee, croissants, and scones are served in the Office, along with traditional board games.
MAINE STAY INN & COTTAGES

My husband is ill and is going to Stanford Hospital. I called in today and the Creekside Inn was able to give us stanford rates and a room with a kitchen with close parking. I have to say excellent service and someone came right away with a luggage cart. He as also helped us get in. My husband is on oxygen and very short of breath and I have been having terrible back problems. The rooms, balcony, bathroom, bedroom are wonderful and comfortable. We needed this for our 5 day stay. Checkin was a breeze and easy to find our room. We will be coming back here often when we come to Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto. Thank you so much for all the comforts of home!!!! We will rest good tonight. Rating 5 Stars all the way!!!!!
